State Representative Larry Walsh Jr. has been serving the 86th District since May 2012. Larry was appointed to replace long serving Rep. Jack McGuire.
Rep. Walsh is 41 years old and a lifelong resident of Elwood, IL. Walsh is married to Theresa (Stringham) Walsh and has three children Katie 18, Joshua 8, and Caleb 7. He graduated from Elwood School and then Providence Catholic High School in 1988 and also attended Joliet Junior College.
Walsh has been an employee of Caterpillar Inc. in Joliet and a member of IAM Local #851 for 18 years. He worked his way up through the union, where he was Chairman of the Union’s Negotiation Committee before taking a full-time position as Secretary Treasurer of IAM District Lodge 8. In his Secretary Treasurer’s position, Walsh oversaw over $5 million in yearly revenues and managed all the finances of the Lodge running a balanced budget each year while expanding its surplus.
Walsh has been active in the Jackson Township community for several years serving on the Jackson Township Board as a Trustee for the last 7 years. He has been involved with the Jackson Township Sportsmen Club, United Way, and Guide Dogs of America. In addition to his involvement in township government through participating and organizing holiday food drives and delivering gifts during the holiday seasons, Walsh has also been a very proud supporter of area community groups such as Jackson Twilighters, Elwood History Club, and Meals on Wheels programs.
